Our Newest Doctor!

Dr. Kadow (2nd-row center, black tie) with fellow MSTP graduates.

We could not be more pleased to announce that Zachary Kadow, a member of the MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is our lab’s newest PhD graduate! Dr. Kadow attended his commencement ceremony this past weekend and in a crowning of his achievements in our lab at BCM, Dr. Kadow was awarded the MSTP Thesis Publication Award. This award is given each year to a recent PhD graduate who the program leadership felt had the strongest thesis publication record.

From Dr. Kadow: “I had a great time at the graduation reception, which was made even better by Dr. Martin’s attendance. It was great to have my family have the opportunity to meet my thesis mentor I had worked with for the past six years. I’m beyond thankful to Jim and the many members of the Martin lab, as winning the publication award is really a reflection of our group’s hard work and dedication to performing rigorous science.“ Zach joined the lab to pursue his interest in cardiac regeneration and got to work quickly by successfully carrying out cardiomyocyte-specific epigenomic characterization and single-cell mRNA sequencing projects. He learned, developed, and implemented these sophisticated techniques with remarkable pacing. In the coming years, Dr. Kadow will continue to receive high-quality training and is becoming prepared for his future career goal of working as a physician-scientist studying cardiovascular development.
