CNIC Conference in Madrid

This past week, Dr. Martin traveled to Spain to attend the 2022 Centro Nacional
de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) Conference, held in Madrid. As the above image indicates, the conference program focused on cardiac regeneration from a mechanistic standpoint and the latest clinical developments in regeneration-based therapies. From the conference website: “In this Conference, the mechanistic and physiological basis of cardiac regenerative ability will be extensively addressed from an evolutionary, developmental, and physiological perspective. The program includes the latest advances in understanding the mechanisms underlying cardiac repair in naturally regenerating organisms and how these can be stimulated in non-regenerating mammals. The conference will also review the current translational regenerative strategies, including gene therapy, modified nucleic acid administration, tissue engineering, and cell reprogramming.”

The 2022 CNIC conference was held in El Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares in the new north Madrid district, Spain, and was supported by the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research.

On the second day of the conference, Dr. Martin gave a talk in the third session entitled “The cardiomyocyte microenvironment in Cardiac Regeneration.” He spoke about our lab’s recent discoveries on Hippo in cardiac regeneration and highlighted our newly published papers. At the conference, Dr. Martin was able to reconnect with long-term collaborators and old friends in person. These interactions were very fruitful and yielded very important insights for our research activities moving forward.
